Okada tool changer form

Dec 11,2019

Based on the capacity of the Okada tool magazine and the way to pick up the tools, it is possible to design the tool magazine in various forms.
The following types are commonly used:
(i) Straight-line tool magazine
The tools are arranged in a straight line in the tool magazine, as shown in Fig. a. The structure is simple and the capacity of the tool magazine is small. Its structure is simple, the tool magazine capacity is small, generally can accommodate 8 to 12 tools, it is less used. This form is mostly seen in the automatic tool CNC lathe, CNC drilling machine has also been used in this form.
(B) disk tool
This form of storage tool as few as 6 to 8, as many as 50 to 60, which has a variety of forms.
(1) tool magazine, tool radial layout, occupies a large space, the location of the tool magazine is limited, generally placed on the upper end of the machine tool column, and its tool change time is shorter, so that the entire tool changer is simpler.
(2) Tool magazine, tool axial layout, often placed on the side of the spindle. Tool magazine axis can be placed vertically, can also be placed horizontally, this form is used more.
(3) tool magazine, tool and tool magazine axis line into a certain angle (less than 90o) umbrella-shaped arrangement, which can be arranged according to the overall layout requirements of the machine tool magazine location, more diagonally placed in the upper end of the column, the tool magazine capacity should not be too large.
The above three disc tool magazine is the more commonly used form, the storage capacity of up to 50 ~ 60, the storage capacity is too much, the structure is huge size, and the layout of the machine is not coordinated.
In order to further expand the storage capacity, some machine tools use a multi-turn distribution of tools disc tool magazine; multi-layer disc tool magazine; multi-row disc tool magazine. Multi-row disk tool magazine 4 knives per row, can be replaced in a row. The last three forms of tool magazine is used less.
(C) chain tool magazine
Chain tool magazine is more commonly used form. This tool magazine knife seat fixed in the ring on the chain link. Commonly used single-row chain tool magazine, as shown in Figure H. This type of tool magazine using extended chain, so that the chain folded back around can improve space utilization, further increase the amount of storage of knives, as shown in Figure i. Chain type tool magazine compact structure, tool magazine capacity, the shape of the chain ring can be made according to the layout of the machine tool in a variety of shapes. It is also possible to protrude the tool change position to facilitate tool change. Within a certain range, when the number of tools needs to be increased, the length of the chain can be increased without increasing the sprocket diameter. Therefore, the circumferential speed of the sprocket may not be increased and the increase in inertia of the tool magazine may not be considered. These for the series of tool magazine design and construction of the supply of a lot of convenience. Generally when the number of tools in the 30 to 120, more than the use of chain tool magazine.
(D) other tool magazine
There are many forms of tool magazine, it is worth mentioning the lattice box type tool magazine. Single-sided, due to the layout is not flexible, usually placed on the workbench tool magazine, the application is less. Multi-faceted, in order to reduce the time to change tools, tool changer robot usually use the previous tool machining workpiece time, take out the tool to be replaced in advance. The tool magazine has a small footprint, compact structure and can accommodate a larger number of tools in the same space.
